Affinity Counseling Group is committed to offering quality therapeutic
services to all people interested in strengthening their relationships, contributing to their communities and seeking social
justice. Through treatment interventions for family and communities, training for professionals and paraprofessionals nationally
and internationally, partnerships with other community-based organizations, and collaboration with local and state entities,
Affinity is helping to shift mental health paradigms from pathology to health and liberation.
Affinity offers a team
approach to therapy, where clients meet several therapists and may work individually, with their families and in a community
context to achieve their goals. Using a systemic family therapy framework, and the Cultural Context Model of treatment, the
team at Affinity supports families to raise their consciousness about their own generational legacies and the impact of societal
and cultural norms to move toward empowerment and liberation.
In 2005 Affinity was awarded a grant to replicate the
Bodega Model, an evidence-based family case management model developed by the Vera Institute, and created a re-entry program
for families with youth involved with the juvenile justice system. This program further enhanced Affinity's ability to provide
quality services, building on family and community strengths, to reach marginalized populations.
Affinity's clients
are a diverse people. Through our adolescent and adult groups, our clients have experienced and demonstrated the power of
community. Our aim is to impact not only individual lives but to create meaningful change in the world.
